Hello! I’m Sarah Schiff and I’ve been teaching sixth grade at New Heights Charter School since 2014. I am currently responsible for teaching math and reading. I’ve implemented differentiated small group instruction during my math blocks and have perfected a pacing plan that ensures the completion of the entire EngageNY curriculum. I’ve also worked hard with the sixth grade team to create an engaging balanced literacy curriculum and use conferring, small group strategy lessons, and student data to alter and differentiate instruction as needed. I manage my classroom using positive behavior management strategies based on the work of Development Designs and focus on social-emotional development at various points throughout the day. I am dedicated to creating a culturally responsive classroom and supporting students’ needs while also fostering positive learning identities and growth mindsets. I’m a proud graduate of UCLA’s Center X Teacher Education Program and spend my free time sleeping and reading.
