Board Members
Kelli-Ann Agner (PhD in progress, Claremont Graduate University, M.S. in Education, Mount St. Mary’s College) is currently an Assistant Professor of Education at Mount St. Mary’s College as well as the Fieldwork Coordinator, & TPA Coordinator. Formerly, Ms. Agner was a teacher and an Assistant Principal in Los Angeles. Her academic focus is studying students at risk. Ms. Agner is the New Heights Charter School Board Secretary.
Dr. Ninez Ponce (BS, UC Berkeley; MPP, Harvard University; PhD, UCLA) is an Associate Professor at UCLA’s Department of Health Services, a community activist, and a parent. Trained in health economics, Dr. Ponce’s research focuses on understanding macroeconomic effects on health and health care access among low-SES neighborhoods and ethnic minorities. Dr. Ponce was Co-Principal Investigator of the California Health Interview Survey. Dr. Ponce is the New Heights Charter School Board President
Peter Schoenfeld (BA, UCLA; BS, UCLA; JD, Columbia University School of Law) was on the development team and served as Principal for Cornerstone Prep School, a K-8 charter school in Los Angeles. Mr. Schoenfeld was President of Universal Studios New Media Group. Prior, Mr. Schoenfeld was Executive Vice President and Group Strategic Director of Universal Studios Television & Networks Group. Prior to Universal Studios, Mr. Schoenfeld served as senior counsel for Twentieth Century Fox in Los Angeles and was a corporate lawyer at Shearman & Sterling (New York) and Brobeck, Phleger & Harrison (Los Angeles). Mr. Schoenfeld is currently active in the Pacific Counsel on International Policy and the Los Angeles Committee on Foreign Relations. Mr. Schoenfeld is the New Heights Charter School Financial Officer.
Helene Brown, affectionately known in Washington,D.C., statewide and locally as a "political oncologist," is a pioneer in health and cancer education. Helene has been in the forefront of the movement to control cancer since 1950 and was responsible for implementing mass media approaches to promote the use of the "pap" smear,
mammography and all approaches to healthful life styles. Helene haw been the President and Board Chair of the American Cancer Society. She served on the National Cancer Institute Advisory Board appointed by President Reagon and on the Executive Committee of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. She is currently an
active member of the Board of the Susan Love Research Foundation and is a Fellow of the American Public Health Association. Helene is the Director of Community Applications of Research of the Division of
Cancer Control and Prevention at the UCLA Jonsson Cancer Center.
Mikko D. Sperber
(Masters degree in Leadership, emphasis in nonprofit management, USC’s School of Policy, Planning and Development; Executive Program Certificate in General Management, UCLA Anderson School of Management) currently serves as the Associate Director, Leadership Development, for the UCLA Anderson School of Management Office of Alumni Relations. A former actor Mr. Sperber continues to be an arts educator and is one of the few VAPA certified educators in the State of California holding a “Professional Designation in Arts Education” from the Los Angeles County Arts Education Training Program. Additionally he serves as the President of the Board of Directors for Will Geer’s Theatricum Botanicum, a historically significant theatre, renowned for its artistic quality and educational programs. Mr. Sperber serves on the New Heights Charter School Development Committee.
Dr. Julie Feldman-Abe is a Professor at Mount St. Mary’s College an the Director of Elementary Education and the Center for Cultural Fluency.
Dr. Lucretia Peebles works in the Santa Clara County Office of Education and was formerly at a Professor at Loyola School of Education at Loyola Marymount University.
