Administration
Amy Berfield is the founder and Executive Director of New Heights Charter School. She has 17 years of experience in educational improvement in Title I schools having worked at the Coalition of Essential Schools, the Galef Institute, the San Francisco Education Fund, and the Developmental Studies Center. Ms. Berfield received her BA from Brown University and her MA in Educational Administration and Policy Analysis from Stanford University School of Education.
Rosa Basil came to New Heights in August of 2006 as the Director of Operations. Rosa has fifteen years of experience working with the local community through her role as a Project Coordinator for the Los Angeles Conservation Corps.. Rosa's role as the Executive Assistant has played an important role with our Organic Garden project. She utilizes her skills and knowledge to reach out to families to help educate them about issues that affect our environment. Rosa is passionate about supporting our families to develop a healthy lifestyle by providing them with educational resources on issues affecting our children.
Mr. Ricky Pitts started at New Heights on August 9, 2010 as the School Director. Mr. Pitts has 16 years of experience working in education. He has worked as a probation counselor for Tri-Community High School, with Inter City Youth and Gangs, and with the Los Angeles Office of Education (L.A.C.O.E.). He has also worked as a Youth Service Specialist for the American Program. He has also served as Dean of Discipline for Eco Academy High School under the Los Angeles Conservation Corps. Mr. Pitts has a great spirit of awareness, passion, and caring heart for the lives of all our children.
Jenny Suh is the Resource Specialist for Special Education here at New Heights Charter. She is an enthusiastic individual who loves to learn, teach and grow with her students. She provides academic support to students both inside and outside the classroom setting. Ms. Jenny is also the Coordinator and support coach for the new computer-based reading program, Fast ForWord. She completed her undergraduate studies at UCLA, where she also received her general education and special education credentials. She is continuing at UCLA to complete her Masters of Education, a true Bruin for life!
